Objectives
Earthmender Torlok at the Altar of Damnation in Shadowmoon Valley wants you to use the Totem of Spirits to capture 8 Earthen Souls and 8 Fiery Souls.

We must try and make amends. We must commune with the elements of this region and see if anything can be done!
I grant you the totem of spirits, <Race>. If you slay an enraged elemental spirit in close proximity of the totem, it will consume the elemental’s soul. You must use the totem to consume many souls before you may return to me.
Do this for the spirits of fire and earth first. Return to me when the totem is full.ProgressI fear that this land may be without hope.
Completion
When all of the elemental souls of this region have been placed inside the totem, we will commune with them and find out if anything can be done for Shadowmoon Valley.

49.49 was the best set of coord’s on this quest. Easy as an arcane/fire mage.

The totem is interesting. The item you get has a 30s cooldown and works an unlimited number of times. The last totem you dropped disappears when you drop a new one.
As others have mentioned you do not need to get credit for the kill for the totem to work. Any monster fitting the description you need will give you credit for the totem if it dies within range. I estimate this range to be around 30 yards.
After the mob dies you will see it’s spirit drawn into the totem and an icon displayed over it indicating the element of the spirit you caught. After all that song and dance your quest credit is triggered.

Location great (46 46) And it seems no matter the class as long as u blast ur totem BEFORE the Enraged Spirit dies, it will count.

Simple quest.
Just put the totem down while you are killing a flame guy or a rock guy and it will automaticly capture its soul.
Easy quest. Took a while though.
