Install instrucctions (official or private servers):
1) Download World of Warcraft client and install.
2) Use the update patches in the order they appear, until the full 2.0.1 version.
3) Download and install The Burning Crusade (optional).
4) Continue to apply patches until release version 2.4.2 (8278).
Next if for the ones that will play on private servers Wow.
5) Open your World of Warcraft føler (Usually c: / program files / world of warcraft)
6) Edit file realmlist.wtf
7) Erase and write both lines of ip address or domain name of the private server (example set realmlist ip_server) 
Run WoW.exe (NOT Launcher.exe)
9) Create an account on the private server, and lets roll!
TIP: If you want to play World of Warcraft in Linux or Windows just remmember to turn off your firewall or add wow.exe to the exception list in the windows firewall.

I downloaded the TBC patch, and whe it installed, it set the version to 2.0.0.6080. There is no patch from that version, and I've searched other places too ... The launcher will not even download a new patch.

If you want to play on the official servers you need to have an account, theres no cd key for wow. On the other hand if you want to play for free on private servers, check this one out http://www.chapincraft.com
